Filtration Recommendations (1000 Gallon Pond):
Here's an example of a minimum recommended filtration specification for a 1000 gallon Koi Pond.
- Bottom Drain - If you don't pull water from the bottom, the water in the pond doesn't get circulated.
- 2500 Gallon Mechanical Filtration (To remove solids waste)
- 2500 Gallon Biological Filter (For Koi Ponds, we recommend 2.5x the Original Filter specification. Example: If you have a 1000 gallon pond, we recommend a biological filter that can handle a 2500 gallon fish load).
- Minimum Turnover Rate (Rule of thumb is to turn the entire volume of pond water over every 3 hours).
- Aeration Minimum 1 CFM (28.2 LPM (liters per minute) @ 4' depth will support 100 pounds of fish, 50 lbs of fish @ 2'. See average weight below

- Temperature 65-70 Degrees Fahrenheit
- pH 6.5 - 8
- Ammonia 0 PPM
- Nitrite less than .25 PPM
- Dissolved Oxygen 4 PPM or greater
