Allied Precision Floating Pond Deicer
Features:
- Thermostatically controlled
- 1000 0r 1500 Watts of power
- Operates automatically during freezing temperatures
About your De-Icer:
- Allied Floating Pond De Icer is intended for use in ponds of 600 gallons or less. A pond larger than 600 gallons will require the use of two de-icers.
- Place your de icer at the edge of your pond, touching the edge. This placement will allow the unit to operate more efficiently by reflecting heat off the side of the pond.
- Your de icer must be protected from the wind. The wind steals heat faster than the unit can release it. If not protected from the wind, your de-icer will not function to its fullest capabilities. To set up a wind barrier, place a sheet of plywood so it covers the corner of the pond with the de-icer positioned underneath it. Be careful not to completely cover the pond, or toxic gases will not be able to escape.
- Keep your de-icer heating element free of mineral buildup, such as lime. Lime buildup is the leading cause of de-icer failure and will void the warranty if the unit is not properly cleaned and maintained. To remove lime buildup, clean your de-icer with white vinegar or a commercial lime-removing cleanser and a brush. Keep your de-icer clean for maximum efficiency and longevity.
- Monitor your power supply. Low power, extension cords, or defective housing wires will greatly reduce the effectiveness of your de-icer. DO NOT use extension cords with your de-icer.
- If the unit freezes into your pond due to power loss, allow the unit adequate time to melt free. Do not chip or cut at the unit, especially if it is plugged in.
- DO NOT ASSUME YOUR DE ICER IS DEFECTIVE IF IT SHOULD NOT PERFORM TO YOUR EXPECTATIONS. To determine if your de-icer is truly defective, you must perform an "air test." Place the de-icer in the freezer or outside (if the temperature is below 35 degrees Fahrenheit) for one hour (the unit should not be in water). After an hour, plug the unit into a known good outlet. Hold the unit by the supply cord. Within seconds, the element should begin to heat. Listen for the thermostat to "click off." Unplug the unit and let it cool. If the de-icer performs as specified above, it is working fine and to its fullest capacity.
Cleaning Instructions: Clean with white vinegar or Lime-Away and use a brush. Unit must be kept clean to prevent mineral build-up which would affect performance.
